In recent years, Biology has become the fastest developing science. Increasingly, whether from the media or life situations, Biology impinges on our lives all around us. Therefore, we consider it vital for every pupil at Merryland International School to gain a solid biological background in order to make better-informed judgments that could affect his or her immediate and long-term future.<\/p>\n
Scientific goals
\nUnderstanding of key concepts to help solve problems in unfamiliar situations
\nUsing scientific methods of investigation to solve problems in a disciplined way
\nAppreciating the contribution science makes to society and realize that applying science can lead to moral and ethical issues having to be addressed
\nUnderstanding that learning in science contributes to personal development because the interest and curiosity shown need to be balanced by an awareness of health and safety matters and respect for living things and the environment<\/p>\n
Appreciating the powerful, but provisional nature of scientific knowledge and explanation and understanding that science is always developing
\nGiving students access to careers in science and technology at a variety of levels<\/p>\n
The objective of the Department is to provide an intellectually stimulating, enjoyable and coherent course of study for all students. This will:

\n\u2022 encourage and develop a body of biological knowledge that can be directly or indirectly applied to real life situations
\n\u2022 encourage an awareness of the social, technological and environmental aspects of Biology

\n\u2022 ensure that each pupil achieves to his or her full academic potential<\/p>\n
To provide a worthwhile educational experience for all candidates, through well designed studies of experimental and practical science, whether or not they go on to study science beyond this level
\nTo enable candidates to acquire sufficient understanding and knowledge to:
\nbecome confident citizens in a technological world, to take or develop an informed interest in scientific matters
