Girl Up MIS

About the organization

Girl Up is a campaign initiated by the United Nations Foundation dedicated to supporting equal opportunities for underprivileged adolescent girls in developing countries, focusing on education, safety, health, and leadership. Moreover, Girl Up also emphasizes promoting equity for girls and women in spaces where they are unheard of or underrepresented. Since Girl Up’s launch in 2010, over 2,500 clubs across 100 countries have been established with a similar goal.

About our club

Girl Up MIS is Merryland’s first-ever community-targeted club. In alignment with Girl Up and the United Nations Foundation’s mission, the Girl Up Club at MIS aims to encourage our students to gain exposure to gender issues, raise awareness, and get involved with exploring solutions to these issues.

With that in mind, we hope to develop healthy, inclusive, and comfortable learning environments for our girls and women, and to ensure that our girls feel secure, capable, considered, and positioned to be the next generation of leaders. Not to mention, a tolerant, socially aware and advocate student body.

How it started

After attending a Girl Up UAE event, MIS students were made aware of the influence of youth-led organizations and their success in bringing about important discussions.

This is exactly what Girl Up MIS aims to embody and achieve!
