Merryland gives great importance to the teaching of English and we have the state- of- the- art technology to help children acquire all the language skills.
The majority of children who join school are from non–English speaking communities but pick up the language quickly because of the excellent language acquisition methods used in school.
The school does everything possible to equip them to face the challenges of tomorrow, with regard to their communicative needs. The department of English regularly conducts creative writing, spellathon and declamation contests for the benefit of pupils. We also have a very vibrant literary club ‘ Meriteratti’ which holds ‘Book and Film Reviews’ regularly. Class room activities such as role plays, skits, debates and impromptu speeches usually culminate in the yearly ‘Character Day’ programme. All these help pupils immensely to develop their linguistic skills.

The observations made by the Adec Irtiqaa inspection team stand as a glowing testimony of the support the school provides vis-à-vis the English language teaching.
“Overall, attainment in English language is very high. Almost all students attain levels above those expected for their stage. Notable strengths include advanced vocabulary against age expectations, skills in collaboration and discussion, and high-quality oral presentation. The excellent progress is made by students in the acquisition and use of English language skills as a result of the detailed and motivating planning and delivery of the English language curriculum. Teachers explore the vocabulary relating to other areas of the curriculum such as the sciences.”
