PARENTAL AWARENESS ON HEAD LICE/ NIT

Dear Parents,

Head lice/nits are common among children and remain the sole responsibility of the parents to eradicate them by providing proper hygiene and medication. But as a school, we would like to cause awareness through this circular. Any adults or children can get head lice. Head lice are contagious through head to head contact or shared personal items. Your immediate attention is required to prevent their spread.

How do children get lice:

  • Head lice happen mostly with elementary school children.
  • Children get lice from other children through head -to- head contact during play or sports time and most often in school settings.
  • Sharing combs, brushes, hair accessories, hats or lockers can spread head lice.

Prevention:

  • Consult with your doctor for the treatment.
  • Soak all combs and brushes in very hot water for one hour.
  • Wash sheets, blankets and other bedding in hot water.
  • Vacuum carpets, furniture and mattresses thoroughly.
  • Practice early detection by making regular head checks with a good quality comb.
  • Early detection and removal of any live lice or nits can keep head lice problems to a minimum.

There will be checking by the school nurse next week to identify pupils with lice.

Thank you for your co-operation
