EXAMS! EXAMS! EXAMS!
The most negative word in the educational system that keeps haunting us in regular intervals.
Mid-term exams and term exams were the only ones that used to scare us. But here we have, weekly tests, surprise test, assignments, reading tasks, listening tasks, mock exams, practical exams, revision test etc. etc. etc. So basically you see, there are exams and tests everywhere. But are they even useful?
Why can’t we directly have term exams so that we save ourselves from this constant stress?
It’s that time again for binge eating or intermittent fasting, endless sleep or sleepless nights, headaches, emotional outbursts, pale completion, pimples /dry skin, frizzy or oily hair. In short, the exams look!
But is it all worth it? What are we getting ourselves in to? No doubt there is peer pressure, societal and parental expectations and your own standards of performance but what matters most is a healthy mind.
The education system is structured in a certain way and although there are changes being introduced for the well-being of students by revaluating the making scheme, inclusion of child-friendly technologies and approach to make learning and grading interesting. But at the end, it rolls down on the individual and the strategies one adapts to maintain equilibrium.
There are things we can do at a personal level to combat this stress and make learning and exam a stress-free zone.
- Start your mornings listening to a peppy sound track instead of the boring alarm
- Sit at peace and say a short prayer
- Have a nice rejuvenating hot water bath; Smell good = feel good
- Dress up in bright colours before you sit for studies
- It is the repetition of affirmations that constructs your beliefs which in turn acts with the universe and things begin to happen. Every morning read out these affirmations loud to yourself
-
- Today is my best day
- I can do this, I will keep trying
- I have people that love me
- I have a lot to be grateful for
- Everything I need is within me
-
- Set a ‘sleeping schedule’: Being awake the whole night isn’t going to help you remember things better but get your mind tired. Sleep well and wake up fresh
- Keep yourself hydrated. Our mind and body are water babies, hence they need a lot of water to function well
- “Me Time”: Take out at least 30 minutes a day to be with yourself doing what you love. It can be reading a few pages from your favourite book, having a cup of coffee, go for a small walk outside, talking to your plants /pets, cooking or just simply gazing at the sky and breathing fresh air that rejuvenates not only your body and mind but also your soul
- Lastly, BREATHE. Breathe in the fresh air. Breathe in positivity. Breathe in courage and breathe in confidence
We need to realize that exams are only to test your knowledge, memory and understanding but the real world needs more than that .Education is very important but it has no value if you do not have self -confidence, social / communication skills and a positive personality.
Marks are not your identity but it’s your personal /social skills and a positive self-image that makes YOU- YOU
