The Two-Day Rule

The Two-Day Rule

Picture this, a student with five major assignments to submit in three days, a test to study for, and piles over piles of homework. As he very anxiously scribbles on one sheet to another, trying to complete as much as he can of all the work to do, with his large coffee mug right by his side, he starts to realize how much of this mess he could’ve avoided if he didn’t procrastinate as much as he did. And then he very passionately puts his pen down and decides: “From tomorrow I am going to change!” He takes out his glittery planner and starts planning out a productive day. A week later, and nothing seems to have changed.

As much as we sometimes start with a strong desire to build a new habit or leave an unhealthy one behind, that motivation gradually decreases as the days pass by. Sometimes it’s because we pick way too many things to change at a time, and so, our attention becomes divided. We get exhausted and leave it altogether.

Thus, we have to take small steps that give sustainable results. And today, I’m giving you a technique known as “the two-day rule” to bring you closer to that personality you desire to have.
The idea is, if you miss doing an activity one day, you have to do it the next day. Let’s take daily reading as an example; if you read 15 pages of a book on Sunday but you missed doing that on Monday, then that’s alright. However, you must not miss reading on Tuesday, even if you don’t feel like it!

This way, you gradually get into the habit that you desire to include in your daily routine and create that dream lifestyle you’ve always wanted!
