Characters’ day at MIS (Dept of English)

The outbreak of the pandemic in 2020 saw the shift from classrooms to computer screens. The most missed aspect of school life for our students was perhaps the much-awaited curricular activities during every academic year. Come September 2021, and students happily returned to school after a long gap. Stepping into the premises was like taking in a breath of fresh air. Along with academic learning, the students looked forward to school activities. And what better way to start the activities on the calendar than the Characters’ Day organized by the Department of English.

This year, Characters’ Day was held on 15th September ’21. A circular was sent well in advance informing parents and students about the themes so that the students could get enough time to choose the character they would want to portray and plan accordingly. Strict reminders were given about safety protocol to be followed, including wearing masks at all times. MIS was a splash of colours and characters on 15th September. The theme for grades 7,8 and 9 was ‘Shakespearean Characters’.The excitement was palpable as children were dressed in Shakespearean characters like Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, King Lear, Cordelia, Hamlet, Romeo, Juliet, Portia, King Duncan, Sebastian, Viola etc. For grades 4, 5 and 6, the theme was ‘Characters from Classics and stories’. Children brought their favourite characters to life as fairies, princes, princesses and protagonists from various classics. They had also learnt up the lines portraying the character and described their costume character confidently . Some enacted a scene from Shakespeare’s plays and popular classics with the perfect line delivery, pronunciation and enunciation. It was indeed a wonderful literary event!
