The Student Council of this academic year reflects how far student leadership has come within our school community. What started as a platform for student participation has transformed into a fully student-driven group, capable of leading, organising, and innovating with confidence and purpose. This change shows the school’s strong belief in letting learners take charge of their ideas and initiatives. With well-structured planning, responsible decision-making, and teamwork, the Student Council has set a new standard for student leadership, defined not just by excellence but also by vision and integrity.
This growth and achievement have been made possible through the ongoing guidance and support of our founder, Mrs. Susheela George, and our chairman, Mr. Aaron Grandon. Their belief in students’ leadership potential has allowed the Student Council to thrive and inspire future generations of leaders.
Since its start in the year 2000, the Merryland Student Council has been key in developing young leaders who are ready to contribute to the school community and beyond. The Student Council’s mission goes beyond academics; it encourages students to build responsibility, take initiative, and serve others. Guided by the values instilled by Mrs. George, the Council proudly upholds its motto “Disciplined, Devoted & Dedicated,” which continues to shape its purpose and direction.
Throughout the school year, Student Council members dedicate their time and energy to planning and delivering various programs that improve the overall student experience. Frequent meetings allow members to share ideas, create innovative plans, and ensure smooth execution of school events. One of the Student Council’s most anticipated contributions is the annual Vibes competition series, a signature singing event that unites students in an atmosphere of talent, creativity, healthy competition and celebration. In recent years, the Student Council has expanded its portfolio of initiatives, adding more meaningful and memorable experiences to school life.
The Student Council’s leadership structure is designed to promote continuity and growth. At the end of each academic year, senior members hand over their responsibilities to junior members, creating a seamless leadership transition. This is followed by a democratic election process at the start of the new year, giving aspiring student leaders the chance to share their vision and bring in new perspectives. This cycle keeps the Student Council vibrant, forward-thinking, and genuinely student-led.
Finally, the success and strength of this year’s Student Council reflect the unwavering trust and vision of Mrs. Susheela George and Mr. Aaron Grandon. Their consistent support has empowered students to lead with independence and pride, enabling the Student Council to uphold Merryland’s values while shaping new possibilities for the future.
